The Dutch Committee for Afghanistan is pleased to announce that we have signed a new partnership grant with The Donkey Sanctuary (TDS) recently. the implementation of the project started 0n the 1st July 2022 and will end on the 31st June 2023.
TDS is a UK registered International Charity Organization founded in 1964 with a focus on the wellbeing working donkeys.
The partnership targets working equines (donkeys in particular) in the province of Bamyan, Takhar, and Badakhshan in Afghanistan with a total budget of $92,181.
Partnership goal: A better access to available and affordable quality veterinary and welfare services together with improved husbandry practices, changed owners’ behaviors, and an effective network having enhanced the welfare and performance of 2,000 working donkeys, which in turn, have positively impacted the wellbeing and resilience of 1,350 equine owners. It is expected that an additional 10,000 donkeys and 8,000 donkey owners will benefit through trained local service providers and community influencers respectively.
Compassions towards working donkeys built, behaviors changed, networking and husbandry practices improved among the target beneficiaries and neighboring communities.
Existing animal health/welfare systems strengthened and improved which have sustainably benefitted both service providers and animal owners mutually.
Local advocacy and involvement of volunteer community activists, village elders and religious leaders have changed the local policies with animals being respected, and coordination among community members improved.
