DCA Evolves to Foster Women’s Empowerment Despite the Challenges
International Women’s Day 2023
DCA followed the UN theme for this year’s International Women’s Day which was “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”. This theme is aligned with the priority theme for the upcoming 67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-67), “Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”. The theme also aligns with DCA’s recent development to use digital and online systems to empower women. Gender equality and empowerment remain a priority for DCA both in our operations and programme.
DCA conducted a virtual celebration by inviting all DCA female staff for the purpose of remembrance, inspiration, to honor, and to share their thoughts, feelings, and opinions on international women’s day online. The female staff participated from different provinces and shared their concerns on the current situation of women in the country.
The leadership and senior management of DCA also shared their views and concerns about the present ban on women working, and the situation of women in the country. They expressed their uncertainties and feelings about women’s rights. They showed their sympathy and kindness through the recitation of poems in tribute to the values of women and their importance in life. The senior management shared their feelings and passion regarding the current tragedy impacting women’s rights. DCA female staff are presently working from home, and are engaged with project beneficiaries, and field staff remotely. DCA provided and delivered gifts to their residential addresses for the purpose of appreciation and celebration of the day. At closure of the meeting, the DCA leadership promised, and assured them they would put all their efforts into the dignity, empowerment, and the rights of women.
Ms. Sakineh Hosseini recited a poem in support to and tribute for Afghan women in Dari.
The English translation is as follows;
Scream for freedom!
I am an Afghan woman but why in prison for life
Freedom is my right. Yes, I am human
Don’t be silent, scream for the freedom of women
Stop superstitions with love, education and knowledge
Don’t be silent, scream for free woman
Beat superstitions with love, education and knowledge
I am an Afghan woman, a free woman
God gave birth to me and you alike
But the silence of history has destroyed my right
O free woman, you are a standing woman
The world has given us nothing but blackness
Stand up again, there is nothing left for the morning
Don’t be silent, cry out, free woman
Eliminate superstitions with love and knowledge
Don’t be silent, scream free woman
Stop superstitions with love, education and knowledge
