On the 11th and 12th of June 2024, DCA-Livestock Programs under the IFAD-funded project conducted a two-day linkages workshop with First Micro Finance Bank (FMFB) for small and medium entrepreneurs. This workshop was attended by 80 VFU paraprofessionals/para-vets from 13 provinces including Herat, Nangarhar, Balkh, Baghlan, Kunduz, Samangan, Bamyan, Kabul, Logar, Maidan Wardak, Khost, Laghman, and Parwan. The primary objective of this workshop was to provide VFUs with an introduction to financing disbursement and to link them with the First Micro Finance Bank-Afghanistan (FMFB-A) to ensure the expansion of their businesses and receive financing disbursement.

Sher Ahmad the para-vet from Herat province, Robat Sangi District, Torghondi Border expressed his enthusiasm, saying:

“I am thrilled that DCA organized this workshop and get-together to link us with the bank so we can get financing disbursement and expand our business. I have learned a lot from this workshop, and once I get home, I will get a medium-sized financial disbursement. Furthermore, by encouraging para-vets, the livelihood of the herders will be enhanced, and we both will earn more money. In the future, I intend to expand my business.”

The following outcomes were achieved during the workshop:

DCA-Livestock Programs plans to continue providing support and mentorship to the VFUs and other private sector actors supported by different projects ensuring they can effectively utilize the financing options available in Afghanistan.
